The nature of north and north east is Jala-tatwa. Suitable for swimming pools and other water bodies, water should drain out of north-east only. This is an important vastu element after earth.
Certainly, the most important Vastu Direction and its Elements are the south and south west are Prithwi-tatwa directions. These directions are suitable for storage purposes.
Lastly, the brahmasthan which represents the space or sky, and this direction is important as per vastu elements and directions, for family activities primarily concentrated in the centre of the house. This space is sacred as well.

Mithuna, Thula and Kumbha which are representatives of the west direction are positive signs. Hence west is a positive direction.
Kataka; Vrischika and Meena which are representatives of the north direction are negative signs. Hence north is a negative direction.
Mesha; Simha and Dhanus which are representatives of the east direction are positive signs. Hence east is a positive direction.
Rishabha; Kanya and Makara which are representatives of south direction are negative signs. Hence south is a negative direction.
