Our scriptures use many other terms to describe human beings’ nature. These terms are different from Ᾱtman and Brahman. We have already explained the Atman and Brahman in detail. Now let’s have a look at what additional terms are used to explain the true nature of human beings other than Atman and Brahman
Human Beings Nature – Saksi
Saksi or otherwise called “Witness refers to the pure Awareness that gets to witness the world. It lends its shine to the ‘ego’ part of the subtle body. However, it does not get affected or involved with its surroundings. For example, the Sun illuminates the universe but remains unaffected by the process. It does not matter if it shines on a palace, a hospital, a prison, or a temple.
Saksi, while defining human beings nature, talks about a trio of the experiencer, experiencing, and the experienced. Saksi is beyond time and space. It witnesses all thoughts, words, and deeds without interrupting them or being moved by them. Therefore, without Saksi, there is nothing in the universe. It involves three processes. Firstly, observing one’s inner experience. Secondly, one must stay detached during the process. And lastly, internalizing the Sakshi experience as a spiritual vision. Even when you deny, it will shine forth.
Human Beings Nature – Kutastha
Kūṭa literally means ‘anvil.’ All objects that come in contact with the anvil change their form. However, the anvil does not change. The Atman remains the constant base on which changes play. The idea is that Consciousness is universal and shared in all things. The realization that pure Consciousness alone is is the state of Kutastha.
Human Beings Nature – Pratyagatman
It is a state where the Self shines free from all limiting adjuncts as a brilliant, uniform mass of Consciousness. It is like the trio of existence-Knowledge-Bliss. The word literally means ‘inner self’ and shows the Jiva’s true nature as Consciousness. The word ‘Pratyagatman’ is the tvam aspect when meditating on the mahavakya ‘tat tvam asi’ or ‘That thou art.’
To Conclude
Therefore, Saksi, Kutastha, and Pratyagatman are three things other than Atman and Brahman that help to define the true nature of humans.
