The modern world is becoming more and more scientifically prone. In the Victorian era, science started reaching the common masses. Therefore, things that we explained by religion had a scientific explanation to them. But have you ever thought of the relationship between science and religion? In fact, they both are related to each other. Thus, when either denies the other, society falls. In order to establish harmony, we should accept both.
Religion and Science
Objective science presents a view of life through the study of the constantly changing world. However, the human being cannot achieve complete happiness through scientific growth alone. Subjective science, or spirituality, gives a way of life through the reflective study of the constant Reality and the means to attain the Reality. Therefore, the goal is the same. How one attains it becomes of utmost importance.
Spiritually, Vedanta, in particular, teaches basic values and how to apply them in our life in order to achieve the goal of complete and permanent happiness. Religion and science can support each other. The latter raises the standard of living, whereas the former raises the bar of life. Besides, material growth through scientific methods will be useless without the right values of healthy living that religion teaches. There are healthy practices in either. In addition, religion and science have been complimenting each other for quite some time now.
Basic knowledge of architecture and a perfect blueprint cannot create a strong structure without good quality products. Similarly, a materially advanced society that does not follow value-based living cannot truly grow. One needs to explore the snickets and ginnels of both to reach a conclusion. In the end, it all depends on the person wishing to follow. Thus, man can only attain great heights by discovering the real worth and benefit of both science and religion.
