Sutra Meaning
Sutras are a compilation of written works to preserve essential teachings of the religion. Each sutra is like short rules on subjects varying from rituals, philosophy, grammar, etc. The oldest sutras, found in Brahmana and Aranyaka of the Vedas, is a larger body of sutra is the six Vedangas necessary to complete the study of Vedas.
They act as pointers and memory aids for intensive discussions on any topic. Padma Purana gives the following requirements for the creation of any types of sutras: –
- It should be concise to facilitate memorization.
- Should hold no ambiguity.
- It Should give the essence of various viewpoints on a topic, covering all aspects of the question. Should use only words that are necessary, relevant, and meaningful.
- Should be capable of being understood from all perspectives.
- It should not be repetitious and must not have any logical fallacies.

Brahmasutra
